Shaikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Rashid Al Maktoum, daughter of Dubai’s ruler, has made headlines after announcing her divorce from Sheikh Mana Bin Mohammed Bin Radhis bin Mana Al Maktoum on Instagram. In her official post, Mahra stated, “Dear Husband, As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce.”
She continued, “I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you. Take care. Your ex-wife,” seemingly referencing the triple talaq, an Islamic practice banned in many countries.
Who is Shaikha Mahra?
Shaikha Mahra is one of the 26 children of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the vice-president and Prime Minister of the UAE. With over 450,000 followers on Instagram, Mahra is known for her support of local designers and her advocacy for women’s empowerment.
Mahra married Sheikh Mana Bin Mohammed Bin Radhis bin Mana Al Maktoum in an opulent wedding ceremony in 2023. The couple had announced their engagement earlier that year in March through the Arabian Royal Agency. Their wedding reception took place in June, and they celebrated their honeymoon in the Greek islands of Mykonos, with Mahra posting “Just the two of us” on Instagram.
In May 2024, the couple welcomed their first child and held a grand gender reveal party in February. A picture on Instagram showed them together at the hospital during their daughter's birth.
By July 2024, Mahra had removed all photos of her husband from her official Instagram account. According to the BBC, there has been no public comment from Sheikha Mahra’s husband or her father regarding the divorce announcement.
