Bengaluru Airport Cab Scam Alert: Beware of the 'Fuel Stop' Trick Taking Extra Cash from Passengers!
A new Bengaluru scam has emerged as far as cab drivers are concerned. According to a report, they use the deception of taking extra cash from passengers heading to Kempegowda International Airport. A techie from Bengaluru, Shivam Sourav Jha, has recently alerted others through social media, especially women.
How the Scam Works:
According to Jha, cab drivers often stop in the middle, saying they are low on fuel, and ask passengers to pay for a fill-up at a nearby petrol station. "They say 1100 is shown, but they ask for only 1000," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. The driver also threatened not to complete the journey if Jha did not agree to pay for the fuel expense. In the harried business of catching an airplane sometimes, passengers can feel intimidated to comply. Then, after payment by the passenger, he takes another inner road for the route to the airport and crosses the official toll passage while billing the passenger of the complete toll amount to be paid.
A Growing Civic Concern
Some users of the social media sites reacted to Jha's post stating their similar experience with that kind of scams. In his comments, one mentioned that use of inner road sometimes can make feel uncomfortable while using since there is lack of illumination on those roads especially during the late night times.
Some ideas to not fall in such scam:
Some passengers suggested using airport buses if one did not want to be bothered with such techniques. A user advised going for a cab and asking him to take him only up to the nearest bus stand only because airport buses were less likely to make wrong turnaround and safer.
Tagging all the popular cab aggregators in the post, he appealed to bring a solution. Many are believing that after this, this company must take increased efforts for increased safety and proper vigilance so that at least any passenger could feel free enough to reach one's desired destination without unknown cost surges or due to scammers.
Passengers, particularly frequent travelers to the airport, have been advised to be more alert and seek alternative travel options when possible. Clear communication with cab drivers about the route and anticipated charges can help avoid last-minute hassles.
