Digital Heist in Noida: Cyber Crooks Con ₹65 Lakh from JP Wish Town Resident in 50-Hour Fear Trap!

NOIDA, Nov 6, 2024 - A resident of Noida's JP Wish Town Society, Chand Gandhi was swindled out of ₹65 lakh by cyber fraudsters in a carefully concocted scam. Cyber fraudsters kept him in a "digital arrest" for more than 50 hours during which they coerced him into transferring the whopping amount. He lodged the complaint with cybercrime police on Monday.

How It Went Tantastring

A few months ago, Gandhi says somebody called him and said he received a parcel with his name on it, which carried proscribed drugs and abused documents. A courier's representative was saying this over the call, Gandhi says. Mumbai Cyber Cell officials came over and did a video call on; the police claimed interrogation of him for 45 minutes. The fraudsters threatened Gandhi with an impending money-laundering case against him and even raised the specter of RBI investigation.

Long-term Fear and Coercion

The cybercriminals kept watching Gandhi for over 50 hours and kept him fearful. The fraudsters said he might be arrested. The fraudsters extracted the banking information of Gandhi under the pretext of "inspecting" his funds. Agitated and scared, the asthma patient, Gandhi even suffered an asthma attack but the scammer continued exerting pressure on him.

Over the next two days, he was groomed to take a break from his fixed deposit and transfer the amount of a total ₹65 lakh – ₹40 lakh and ₹25 lakh in two transactions to bank accounts which the fraudsters had specified.

Police Investigation Launched

When Gandhi finally felt he was being duped, he lodged a complaint at the cybercrime cell. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) for Cyber Cell stated that the case has indeed been filed and a thorough probe is going on. Police authorities are verifying the information in an attempt to identify the accused people to stop such cases.

There is a rising fear seen in NCR.

It is a classic case of the ever-growing cases of cybercrime in Noida and the NCR. The police try their best to discourage these, but fraudsters will keep coming up with elaborate schemes to make gullible victims suffer a significant mental and financial trauma.

This is a wake-up call to the public concerning being very particular about what information they are allowed to share over the phone-most especially if it comes about unexpectedly, especially in those calls claiming to be issued by the officials.
