Gautam Gambhir Sets 3 Embarrassing Records in 4 Months; Rohit Partnership Flops
Team India played terribly and was nowhere close to New Zealand's spirited spin attack throughout the test series. Not many Indians were able to look happy batting during the Kiwis' performance. Post 2024 T20 world cup Gautam Gambhir replaced head coach Rahul Dravid with his tenure quite bumpy so far under his hand, the Indians have amassed three undesirable record books on his watch so far.
Gautam Gambhir: Sets 3 Records
The 36-year wait on Indian soil ended when New Zealand won a Test match here since 1988. The Gambhir period revived the 24-year-old scar for India, as India was to suffer a first home Test series whitewash since 2000, for it was defeated 3-0 by New Zealand. This time, though, the defeat was also marked by a comprehensive display from New Zealand, indicating India's failure to absorb their spin tactics.
This has also seen the flawless record of home Tests get tarnished for India. India, since 2012, was never beaten at home in any Test series. This unbeaten streak went with the Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni combination at the helm of affairs, but Rohit Sharma led a side that would suffer their first home Test series loss in over ten years as the familiar setting of home grounds became unfamiliar with this loss.
Finally, India lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka-a rare affair. For the first time since 1996, Gambhir's first assignment as head coach saw Sri Lanka beat India in an ODI series when India lost nearly two decades of domination.
