History was created at the IPL 2025 Auction as Rishabh Pant became the costliest player in IPL history, going for a staggering ₹27 crore to Lucknow Super Giants. It meant Pant's record-breaking price dethroned the previous highest bid of ₹24.75 crore paid for Mitchell Starc in the 2024 auction.

Lucknow Super Giants had managed to prise the explosive wicketkeeper-batsman out of an intense bidding war between several franchises. His qualities as a leader, dynamic bat, and proven match-winner made him sought after during this year's auctions.

Shreyas Iyer also made headlines, fetching ₹26.75 crore and becoming the second-highest earner of the auction. After a prolonged bidding battle between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, the latter eventually bagged Iyer. Both players set the tone for a blockbuster auction, showcasing the franchises' readiness to invest heavily in marquee talents.

In preparation for the just around the corner 2025 season, the IPL teams are now getting ready to face competition from a level of stars commanding record-breaking prices.
