Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has now overtaken Ravichandran Ashwin to become the leading wicket-taker in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. Bumrah, currently ranked No. 1 in the ICC Test bowler rankings, has claimed 66 wickets in 13 Tests so far in the ongoing cycle. Ashwin, who has 63 wickets from 14 Tests, was surpassed by Bumrah after the pacer dismissed Usman Khawaja in Australia’s second innings of the ongoing third Test in Brisbane.

Bumrah’s Brilliant Performance Surpasses Ashwin

Bumrah’s outstanding performance in Brisbane helped him leapfrog Ashwin’s tally. The pacer took six wickets in the first innings, followed by dismissing Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne in the second innings. His remarkable form continues as he closes in on breaking Ashwin’s record for the most wickets in a single WTC cycle by an Indian bowler.

After Bumrah and Ashwin, the next bowlers in line are Australia’s Pat Cummins (62 wickets), Mitchell Starc (62 wickets), and Josh Hazlewood (57 wickets).

Ashwin holds the record for most wickets by an Indian in a single WTC edition, with 71 wickets taken during the 2019-21 cycle.
