The Ministry of Sports has announced the winners of the 2025 Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Manu Bhaker, D Gukesh, Praveen Kumar, and Harmanpreet Singh are this year's awardees of India's highest sporting award. Each recipient will receive ₹25 lakh in cash, a medal, and a certificate. Until 2020, the prize money was ₹7.5 lakh. It has been increased to ₹25 lakh by the Modi government.

Details about the Award Ceremony

Winners would be felicitated at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 17 January, 2025 at 11 a.m. The awards confer extraordinary contributions towards Indian sports by these athletes. These athletes set a new benchmark in their respective sports.

Extraordinary Achievements by the Khel Ratna Awardees

Manu Bhaker: History was created in Paris Olympics by Manu Bhaker as she had won two medals in shooting sports. She was the first-ever Indian athlete who achieved this milestone in a single Olympics.

Harmanpreet Singh: Led the Indian hockey team to a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, making India win its second successive Olympic bronze in hockey.

D Gukesh: Recently, he was declared the youngest world chess champion at the age of 18, creating history in the chess world.

Praveen Kumar: Won gold in the T64 High Jump category at the Paralympics and broke records in the process.

Arjuna Award Winners

Apart from the Khel Ratna awardees, 32 sportspersons will be awarded the Arjuna Award, which includes 17 para-athletes, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Indian sports.
