IND vs AUS: Late wickets for Bumrah as India dominate Australia in first Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy
India is in command at the end of day three in Perth in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy following a stellar performance after centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and Virat Kohli (100*) off the bat of Jasprit Bumrah's devastating late spell.
India started their second innings well, in the form of a record-breaking 201-run opening stand by Jaiswal and KL Rahul, which is the highest for India in Australia. Jaiswal's sublime 161 took the responsibility of anchoring India's response after their first-innings total of 150. Kohli, as always, provided a reliable, calm 100* to see India declare at 487-6.
The visiting side had hopes of resisting with Australia set 534 for victory. That glimmer of hope was soon lost as Bumrah, refreshed and back in form, provided an early breakthrough. He trapped Nathan McSweeney lbw with just the fourth delivery of Australia's second innings. The Aussie fightback was further stalled when Pat Cummins, acting as nightwatchman, edged a delivery from Mohammed Siraj straight into Kohli's hands at second slip.
Still, Bumrah wasn't done yet. His third over saw him dismiss Marnus Labuschagne lbw with the successful referral against the on-field umpire's decision. Stumps ended with Australia at a precarious 12-3, trailing by a margin of 522 runs.
With two games to play and just two days remaining, Australia face a challenging task indeed. Their highest successful fourth-innings chase stands at 418-7, made against Australia at St John's in 2003. With the uneven bounce and movement on the pitch, India look well on their way to taking an important lead in the five-match series.
And the stage is set for an exciting end where India has taken an upper hand from here at Bumrah spell of 2-1 in 3.4 overs which further sealed their dominance in this historic Border-Gavaskar Test.
