PARIS — Indian athletes have delivered a record-breaking performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024, surpassing their previous best from the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. With an impressive haul of 20 medals, India has now set a new milestone, securing 3 gold, 7 silver, and 10 bronze medals. This achievement propels India to 19th place on the medal tally, marking the nation's highest-ever medal count at the Paralympic Games.

Surpassing Tokyo’s Record

In the Tokyo Paralympics 2020, India had secured 19 medals, which was then the country’s best performance. The tally included 5 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals. However, the athletes in Paris have outdone themselves, breaking their previous record with an outstanding total of 20 medals.

Indian Medalists Shine

Among the standout performers for India in Paris, Sumit, Nitesh Kumar, and Avani Lekhara captured the gold, showcasing their dominance in their respective events. Silver medals were secured by Suhas L.Y., T. Murugesan, Yogesh Kathuniya, and Manish Narwal, while athletes like Manisha Ramdas, Nithya Sivan, Mona Agarwal, Preeti Pal, Rubina Francis, and Nishash Kumar clinched bronze, contributing to India’s historic medal haul.

China Dominates the Medal Tally

While India celebrates its record achievement, China continues to maintain its dominance at the top of the medal tally. China has won 53 gold, 40 silver, and 22 bronze medals, putting them significantly ahead of second-place Great Britain, which has 31 gold, 18 silver, and 13 bronze medals. The United States ranks third with 20 gold, 22 silver, and 11 bronze medals, followed by Brazil, which has secured 14 gold, 11 silver, and 23 bronze medals.

As the Paralympics 2024 progresses, India’s remarkable performance has not only set a new benchmark for the nation but also inspired hope for even greater achievements in the future.
