Andhra Pradesh: Parents Die by Suicide Over Son's Plan to Marry Transgender Partner
A shocking incident has come to the fore in Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh. A couple allegedly took their own lives because their son insisted on marrying a transgender partner. The parents are said to be Subba Rayudu and Saraswati, who were reportedly distressed over their son Sunil Kumar's relationship and his refusal to marry a woman.
Family Conflict and Financial Disputes
Sunil was in a relationship with a transgender person for three years and had reportedly spent ₹1.5 lakh on them. This had constantly resulted in conflicts with his parents. According to the police, members of the transgender community allegedly started demanding this money back from Sunil's parents and even publicly humiliated them.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer P. Srinivas Reddy said that the parents were shocked and felt ashamed, leading them to commit this extreme act of suicide. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and inquiries are being conducted.
History of Suicide Attempt by Son
The police revealed that he had attempted suicide earlier over disputes with his parents regarding his relationship. He had been adamant that he should not marry a woman and wanted to stay with his transgender partner. The rising tensions, public humiliation, and financial pressures may have driven his parents to their death.
Investigation Is Ongoing
A case has been filed, and further investigations into the involvement of the transgender community and any other factor that may have contributed to the tragedy are underway. Police are also looking into extortion or harassment as a factor behind the incident.
