A crocodile was seen on the roof of a house in Vadodara, Gujarat, as the state continues to be severely impacted by floods following heavy rainfall. The incident, captured in a viral video, highlights the extent of the flooding affecting the region.

The floods have claimed at least 28 lives and displaced thousands of residents. Vadodara has been particularly hard hit, with several low-lying areas submerged after the Vishwamitri River overflowed and inundated residential neighborhoods.

Rescue efforts are underway, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state authorities working to evacuate stranded individuals. Three columns of the Indian Army have also been deployed to assist in the rescue operations. State Minister Rushikesh Patel reported that over 5,000 people have been evacuated, and an additional 1,200 were rescued from Vadodara on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed officials to prepare for cleanup operations, including deploying cleaning equipment and disinfectants, once the floodwaters recede. Additional teams from the municipal corporations of Ahmedabad and Surat, as well as the municipalities of Bharuch and Anand, have been requested to support the efforts.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall for 12 districts in Gujarat, including Kachchh, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, and Rajkot. The state has received 105 percent of its average annual rainfall in just a few days. Notably, Devbhumi Dwarka recorded 454 mm of rainfall, followed by Jamnagar city with 387 mm and Jamjodhpur taluka with 329 mm in the 24-hour period up to 6 am Wednesday.

Currently, 140 reservoirs and dams, as well as 24 rivers, are flowing above danger levels, with 122 out of 206 dams on high alert. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel of full support from the Central Government, including guidance on protecting lives and livestock and providing necessary assistance.
