Indian Railways Launching Super App for All Travel Needs: Booking, Tracking, and More in One Place - Read Now
Indian Railways’ upcoming Super App will unify services like ticket booking, train tracking, and e-catering, simplifying travel for millions. Expected by year-end, this app will integrate with IRCTC’s existing systems to boost convenience and revenue.
Indian Railways is soon to see a major transformation in its digital services as it'll launch the Super App. The App may completely change the travel experience of millions of passengers. Ticket booking, PNR status, and train tracking together with e-catering services will now be integrated in one place through the new Super App. This app, much in demand by the end of this year, is being developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) in association with IRCTC, the catering and tourism arm of Indian Railways.
Now, with this, Indian railway passengers would have to access multiple apps to avail the range of services. For instance, 'IRCTC Rail Connect' for booking ticket, 'e-Catering Food on Track' for food services, and 'NTES', or National Train Enquiry System, for real-time train tracking. A new Super App will integrate all these services under one umbrella, thus making it easy, hassle-free, and fit for the passengers at large.
The app will also provide an integrated access feature to many different features, like:
Ticket Booking: Passengers can book tickets without having to toggle between apps and will have all available trains and schedules consolidated to them.
PNR Status: Users can know their PNR status without much fuss as there would be no need for multiple websites or apps.
Indian Railways is one of the first Indian railways to allow passengers to track their trains in real time, enabling the passenger to know at what point on the map the train is located, and also the estimated arrival time at their destination.
Passengers can now order foodstuffs directly from these apps. Passengers can order from any foodoutlet that has an outlet at a railway station across the country.
This is an initiative by Indian Railways to digitize services and enhance the passenger experience while improving efficiency. It will also rise the revenue since a single app will attract more passengers towards IRCTC services. IRCTC made a net profit of ₹1,111.26 crores in FY 2023-24. More than 30% of the revenues were generated from ticket sales. The Super App can further increase these figures by making railway services accessible.
With over 100 million downloads under its belt, the IRCTC Rail Connect app already formed a ticking machine, as it had to manage the often cumbersome process of ticket reservation. The Super App is an opportunity for Indian Railways to make travel even more convenient and to perhaps attract a lot more users to its unified digital platform.
The Super App for Indian Railways will not only give the passenger a seamless, comprehensive experience but will also reduce the number of downloads required, thereby making it more convenient to travel. As Indian Railways takes up this digital transformation, an all-rounded app by the end of the year for passengers is expected-the services would be streamlined and made more convenient for millions of users.
