Omar Abdullah on PoK: NC MLA’s Statement Sparks Controversy Over Development Comparison

Omar Abdullah on PoK: National Conference (NC) MLA Mir Saifullah has stirred controversy by comparing Keran sector in India to Keran sector in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He claimed that PoK has seen more development than India’s side of the border. This statement has triggered a political storm, with BJP strongly opposing it.

Omar Abdullah Responds to the Statement

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed the issue, acknowledging that both sides have seen development, but he pointed out that China has helped Pakistan in building roads in PoK.

"Development on Pakistan’s side is visible, but it has happened with China's assistance. In India, we have not taken help from anyone, and development should happen here as well," he said.

BJP Slams NC MLA’s Remarks

The BJP strongly criticized Mir Saifullah’s statement, calling it unparliamentary and unacceptable. BJP leaders like Sunil Sharma and R.S. Pathania accused the National Conference of pushing an anti-national agenda.

"This reflects NC’s mindset, and we will not allow any anti-India rhetoric in the Assembly," said BJP leader Sunil Sharma.

Mir Saifullah Defends His Statement

After facing backlash, Mir Saifullah clarified his remarks, stating that his intention was not to compare India with Pakistan.

"I never compared my region with another country. But yes, PoK has better roads, and development in India's Keran sector has been slow," he said.

China's Role in PoK’s Development

According to Omar Abdullah, China has played a key role in infrastructure development in PoK, which is why it appears more developed. However, he emphasized that India must focus on improving infrastructure in border areas without external assistance.

Political Tensions Rise

With elections approaching, political tensions have escalated over development in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP and NC continue to clash over this issue, making it a hot topic of debate in the region.

Conclusion

The statement by NC MLA Mir Saifullah comparing Keran sector with PoK has led to a major political controversy. While Omar Abdullah defended India's stance, the BJP slammed NC for allegedly promoting anti-India views. The debate highlights the need for better infrastructure in border areas and the growing political divide on development issues.
