Sambhal Violence: SP Leaders Stopped by Police as Tension Continues in UP and Delhi Border Areas
Sambhal Violence: Situation remains tense in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh a day after violent clashes between two groups. On Thursday, the police had stopped leaders of Samajwadi Party (SP) from leaving for Sambhal to meet the victims. Despite efforts from the party, key leaders were detained and their movements restricted by the authority.
A 15-member delegation of the Samajwadi Party had planned to go to Sambhal to meet with the violence victims, but was deterred by the police. The opposition leader, Mata Prasad Pandey, who was at the head of the delegation, was stopped by the district administration. The DM called him personally and told him that he is not allowed to visit riot-hit areas.
Police Prevent SP Leaders from Reaching Sambhal
Things took a turn for worse when other prominent SP leaders, including Shyam Lal Pal, were detained at various points. The police stopped the convoy of SP MPs Harendra Malik and Zia-ur-Rehman Barki at the Ghazipur border. The SP leaders from nearby regions, including Lucknow, were stopped at the border, preventing them from heading to Sambhal. Similarly, former minister Kamal Akhtar and SP legislators Pinki Yadav and Jai Veer Singh Yadav were arrested at Munda Pande police station in the Moradabad district.

Police Action on SP Leader Mata Prasad Pandey
Mata Prasad Pandey, the Leader of Opposition in Uttar Pradesh, was not allowed to leave his residence. Although he attempted to leave by car, he was stopped by police, who issued him a notice preventing him from travelling. Despite the police's intervention, the SP leaders were determined to visit the riot-affected areas, but they were obstructed by the police.
Why Were SP Leaders Stopped?
The main reason for this action was to prevent the leaders from inflaming and escalating the violence in the region. Local authorities feared that the arrival of the political delegation would flare up an already volatile situation.
Tension Continues in Sambhal and Neighbourhoods
The violence in Sambhal and its surrounding areas, including the UP-Delhi border and Moradabad, has been creating a huge nuisance. Police barricades and security measures have been in place to restrict movement, especially that of political leaders. The police also seem to be taking precautionary steps to avoid any further escalation.
SP Leaders Criticize Police Action
Party leaders Samajwadi also condemned the police for hampering their plans to see the victims. They are saying it is crucial to visit so that the situation can be accessed and support can be rendered for those hurt by the bloodshed, but authorities have been on their stand as their actions must keep law and order in line.
