Amer Tourism Chaos: Traffic congestion, narrow roads, and poor management stranding visitors and patients alike

JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN – The once-famous tourist destination Amer near the pink city of Jaipur is facing acute mismanagement, leaving visitors frustrated and locals struggling. The Amer Fort is part of the Golden Triangle, which includes the Red Fort of Delhi and the Taj Mahal of Agra, and attracts thousands of both domestic and international tourists daily. Though it is such an important place, the sliver roads to reach the fort are choked with traffic mostly due to the entry of large buses and heavy vehicles.

Tourists Upset with Traffic Jam

As the tourist season gains momentum, Jaipur is flooded with visitors, causing heavy revenue to the state. With this influx, the rather pathetic infrastructure has led to heavy traffic jams, particularly on the road to Amer Fort. Visitors get stuck in the cars for hours at times or are forced to walk under the hot sun.

Several tourists have reportedly left without visiting the fort, citing chaotic traffic and absence of proper facilities. "We came with great expectations but were disappointed by the mismanagement," a tourist from Delhi said.

Impact on Amer Satellite Hospital

The traffic situation is not only inconveniencing tourists but also killing people. The Amer Satellite Hospital, on the choked route, treats 700–1,000 patients daily. The constant traffic snarls caused by big vehicles make it all but impossible to get emergency patients to the hospital on time.

Police and Administration Under Fire

The role of administration of Amer Palace, traffic police, and Amer police station has now become a question in this context because the administration of Amer Palace assures people that it would not allow the entry of any vehicle into the place once the parking is full, but the buses-thick roads continue. Traffic police on roadstations located near Maotha Lake are unable to curb this mess further increasing public anger.

Blow to Tourism Image of Rajasthan

As Amer Fort remains one of Rajasthan’s most iconic tourist destinations, the current state of affairs tarnishes the state’s image. The tourism department and government, despite benefiting from the revenue generated by visitors, have failed to ensure basic amenities and traffic management.
