Tension in Siuri Over Alleged Destruction of Hanuman Idol: Police Investigating

Tension erupted in Siuri in Birbhum district following reports of the alleged destruction of a Hanuman idol at a local temple. The incident has added to the concern in the area, especially with political events unfolding in West Bengal.

According to local sources, the idol was installed in a small, made-of-mud Hanuman temple beside the Indragacha crossing within Siuri 2 block. Around ten years back, the same place had been constructed across Siuri-Bolpur Road, and every day regular puja  used to take place inside this temple. It is believed that on Thursday night somebody has broken the idol of Lord Hanuman.

The temple priest, Manoj Das, was informed of the incident around 10:30 PM but chose not to report it immediately. "I thought it would be better to inform everyone in the morning. After I arrived at the temple the next day, everyone would be made aware of what had happened," Das said.

When the news came out in public on Friday morning, agitation spread throughout the local society.

The incident has created a storm in the state political atmosphere. The opposition leader, Suvendu Adhikari, demanded that the arrested culprits should be brought to book promptly. Adhikari asked State Police Chief Rajeev Kumar to hasten the investigation process over X.

The Siuri police came and took over the situation within no time. A district police officer also confirmed that an investigation into the case was going on, and extra surveillance measures had been taken in place to prevent further agitations.

Until now, no one has been arrested but local residents are feared and angry at the incident. The situation is being closely followed as efforts are underway to bring peace in the region.
