Almost three months after Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took asylum outside Bangladesh, her party, Awami League, issued calls for mass protests in Dhaka against the interim government led by Yunus. The interim government retaliated by advancing military strength on the streets of Dhaka to enforce control and contain the spread.

Bangladesh Trouble: Awami League Protests

Ahead of these threatened demonstrations, Dhaka's security forces have made heavy prevention preparations, including the arrest of hundreds of Awami League activists and supporters. Leaders of the Awami League, some of whom have gone underground in order to stay away from police scrutiny, are slated to lead these rallies in vital areas of Dhaka, including Gulistan, Zero Point, and Noor Hossain Square. According to them, these protests condemn what they think is unjust moves from the government by targeting their leaders, imposing bans on their student wing, and harassing AL activists.

These demonstrations occur amid political tensions, with the Awami League mobilizing their followers against the current regime's curbs and arrests. The caretaker government placed the military forces on standby to indicate the heightened concern about unrest and violence erupting in the capital.
