Bare It All: Jamaica's Hedonism III Hosts the World's Most Unclothed Wedding Bash!

RUNAWAY BAY, Jamaica, Feb. 14, 2003 — In a bold departure from traditional wedding norms, 29 couples gathered at Jamaica's renowned Hedonism III Resort to celebrate their unions entirely without clothing, igniting worldwide discussions on the nature of love and societal expectations.

It occurred on Valentine's Day at the magical place called Runaway Bay. It was attended by a colourful mixture of persons from various sectors and also cultures: there is a Russian couple, Kro tribe representatives as well as a Native American couple in addition to a Canadian. Professions include advertising officials as well as welders to crane operators and kindergarten teachers; marriage across the board cannot stop people from showing themselves as individuals.

Hedonism III, in Jamaica's parish of St. Ann, proved to be just the right place for such a unique celebration, which is famous for clothing-optional ceremonies. Performers of the wedding ceremony were Reverend Frank Servasio of the Universal Life Church of Florida, who performed the ceremony at the beachfront lawn of the resort. For an hour, every single couple vowed love and commitment to each other in a place that has been focused on purity and partnership and not on wedding clothes.

The guests were quite nude at the wedding, though some wore blindfolds to make them comfortable. At the wedding, there were several presenters, including the bride's18-year-old daughter and her boyfriend, who attended blindfolded.

The number of couples that attended exceeded the average of 10 to 12 clothing-free weddings commonly performed each year at the resort. The scale of such an event revealed a great and new trend in a general trend toward alternative wedding practices, which would certainly differ from the norm.

International opinion on the wedding was mixed. While most reacted by praising the couples for their strength of character and willingness to redefine marital traditions, others were uneasy and even critical. In the groom's family, some of its members expressed unease regarding the unorthodox nature of the ceremony: whether the venue was proper, the dressing slight or inappropriate.

The couples, however, stood by their choice and held the ceremony to be the deepest expression of love as well as individuality. Theirs now is regarded as one of the most creative and unusual weddings in the world-inspiring others to look to create a more personalized and meaningful way of celebrating their unions.

Hedonism III Resort has managed to attract the perfect couple willing to deviate from wedding constraints as well as spreading a message of love and commitment. Love and commitment may be expressed in very diverse, real ways; this was demonstrated by the now historic wedding event of 2003.
