Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has urged talks in a robust reaction to the recent attack outside a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada. Alleged to have been carried out by Khalistani supporters, the attack has already raised tensions between India and Canada following a violent incident his statement has seen him urge the Indian government to engage in discussions with Canadian authorities to prevent such incidents from occurring again in future.

He condemned the violence stating the need for coexistence on a peaceful scale as well as for safeguarding the people abroad in Punjab. "What occurred recently in Canada is rather highly condemnable," stated Mann. This is mainly because, to many of its people, Canada forms their second home. Mann says, they share their sentiments deeply with the people. The people are a representation of how safe they would feel from the security perspectives as diaspora persons who are considered soft-spoken and industrious people.

He asked the Indian government to act proactively so that the issue is dealt with with the Canadian authorities. I demand that the Indian government talk to the Canadian government to take any action required so that such incidents do not happen in the future, he added, seeking more cooperation to ascertain the safety and security of Indian communities abroad.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also was mum on the attack, deeming it unacceptable. He further reiterated that every person in Canada has the right to observe their religion freely and safely. On Monday night, large crowds began flocking to the temple in solidarity with the community following the attacks, while Indian leaders spoke out against the atrocities committed and demanded accountability.

This highlighted the importance of diplomatic discourse between India and Canada pertaining to matters concerning Diaspora communities and continued peaceful coexistence.
