Powerful Blast at Pakistan Quetta Railway Station Kills 20

At least 20 killed in powerful explosion that rocked Quetta Railway Station, Pakistan; death toll is going to rise, say authorities. All the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals and police along with rescue teams have been put on the spot. Bomb disposal units have also been sent in.

Reports claim two blasts occurred in Quetta. Four people were killed from the first blast, while fifteen more reportedly have been injured from the second. Authorities are investigating the cause and motive behind the blasts. No organization has yet claimed responsibility. The blasts occurred at a busy station where one passenger train was leaving as another was arriving.

The eyewitnesses say the explosion was "massive." Chaos erupted at the station. According to initial reports, the explosion occurred while the Jaffar Express was moving towards Bhindi.

Recurring Bomb Blasts in Pakistan

Bomb blasts unfortunately have become common in Pakistan and attack different regions quite often. Just a few days ago, a bomb explosion in Pakistan's restive North Waziristan claimed the lives of four security personnel and injured several others. An earlier blast occurred near a school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where two children lost their lives.

Earlier, an explosion had occurred near a school in Balochistan. It killed seven people, five of whom were school children and injured at least 22 other people. The bomb is reportedly an IED attached to a motorcycle. All hospitals in Quetta are put on high alert after the incident.

The latest attack once again throws into the limelight a running challenge that this administration faces: that of managing security issues in unruly regions of Pakistan. An investigation is under way as they are working towards zeroing in on the perpetrators.
