Ukraine War Update: North Korean Troops Join Russian Assaults as Drones Target Russian Oil Facilities

The ongoing Ukraine war has witnessed a significant shift in tactics as Russian forces have now started using North Korean soldiers for the first time in large numbers on the frontlines. According to his briefing, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that North Korean troops are now deployed alongside Russian forces on the Kursk front. This is a new escalation as Ukrainian intelligence believes that these troops may be transferred to other parts of the front, too. Although North Korean forces have not yet clashed on Ukrainian soil, they already suffered noticeable casualties.
He noted that the global support level is needed to be heightened with Russia's military campaign increasingly on the rise. This is something he intends to discuss with European leaders later this week, calling for stronger responses from allies in this latest escalation of the war. Urging unity among its Western partners, Ukraine's call becomes much more urgent, especially since things are heating up on the Kursk front.
Meanwhile, the Russian air defense systems have been shooting down 15 Ukrainian drones during a recent overnight attack. The drones targeted strategic locations, including Kursk and Belgorod regions, which border Ukraine. The Ukrainian military has been increasingly using drones to strike Russian infrastructure, including a significant attack on an oil facility in Russia's Oryol region that is a key fuel source for Russian troops. Russian authorities reported fighting fires, though there were no casualties after a drone attack.
To this end, Ukraine and Russia have escalated their drone use. Russia claimed to have downed over 60 drones in the same period while Ukraine's defense forces managed to shoot down 58 of the 132 Russian drones launched in their overnight raid. Both parties will continue with their airstrikes and artillery bombardments and, thus, the aerial attacks will intensify.
