Bengaluru, Chennai to Expect Heavy Rain: IMD Issued Yellow Alerts as Widespread Showers on Course

Indian Meteorological Department issued yellow alerts for Bengaluru and Chennai, predicting widespread rains across the cities owing to a low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal. The weather system would lead to widespread showers over south India, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
IMD forecasted temperatures ranging between 18°C and 30°C for Bengaluru
IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall from December 13 in Bengaluru. The same conditions can be experienced in Chennai on December 11-12. The yellow alert implies that bad weather is probable, so residents are called upon to take precautions at the minimum, especially in areas prone to waterlogging.
Regional Meteorological Centre Deputy Director General S. Balachandran said the low-pressure system is moving to the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coast where it is expected to deliver light to moderate rainfall during the next couple of days. Heavy rainfall is predicted over moderate areas in Tamil Nadu including Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet. In coastal Tamil Nadu, too, significant rainfall has been predicted.
The respite from the heatwave might cause inconvenience in wet conditions. In Bengaluru and the neighboring districts of Kolar, Chitradurga, and Ramanagara, the residents should be prepared for rainfall from December 13.
Already, in Karnataka, there have been reports of rain in Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, and Gadag districts. The southern, coastal, and northern regions are likely to receive more showers in the coming days. IMD has cautioned the public to be watchful, avoid waterlogged areas, and heed local weather advisories for safety.
A major fall in temperatures has already been felt in most parts of Karnataka, including Belagavi and Bidar, which has gone down to as low as 13.4°C in Chikkamagaluru. Coastal districts Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are expecting heavy rains on December 14, with cyclonic circulation persisting over the region.
