Crypto Scam Hits Gurugram: ₹3.5 Lakh Stolen in Bogus Investment Scheme

GURUGRAM, India — A man from Gurugram has become the latest victim of cryptocurrency scam, losing nearly ₹3.5 lakh after being lured by offers of bonanza profits. The cases of cyber frauds are rising in Delhi-NCR.
Aditya Sharma, resident of Central Vihar Society in Sector 56, received a message from an unknown WhatsApp number asking him to join a Telegram group. There he had interactions with two managers who were named as coming from the Chicago Board Option Exchange that promised high commissions for small tasks. Firstly they paid ₹50 for the task which gradually went up to ₹100-150 per task and then came the promise of a 50 percent commission.
The scammers convinced Aditya that it was a scheme to promote cryptocurrency trading. Once he started believing in them, he transferred ₹3.5 lakh to them. Post the payment, however, the scammers went radio silent, and Aditya realized his woes.
Aditya has already lodged the case with the Cyber Crime Police Station and an investigation has been inducted. The authorities are also trying to track down some of these fraudsters to prevent further victimization of others. Other possible victims in the same area also are being investigated by the police to consider the possibility of the scams.
This is the growing issue of cybercrime and risks associated with fraud related to cryptocurrency, especially through unverified communication media, like WhatsApp and Telegram. The police have requested people to be aware of such schemes and verify carefully any kind of investment opportunity.
