Gurugram Traffic Police Crackdown: ₹18.90 Lakh Fined for Silencer Blasts and Pressure Horns—Riders Beware

GURUGRAM, India — In a bid to minimize road noise pollution and ensure road safety, Gurugram traffic police have gone hammer-and-tongs against noisy motorcycles and pressure horns, imposing fines of Rs 18.90 lakh in September alone.

The crackdown was meant for silencer blats and pressure horns - the two main issues it sought to prevent, in what it deemed disturbances and potential accidents. For this, 189 traffic tickets were given by the police, which were derived from something as obvious as Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles and loud horns.

Key Players and Their Actions

The Deputy Commissioner, Traffic Police said that as many as 94 penalties have been issued for "silencer blast" violation and 95 for pressure horns. This move added up to ₹18.90 lakh from the violators' pockets. Such was the motivation behind the decision to launch this campaign to curb the chaos on roads and avoid accidents due to distractions from loud sounds in the streets.

Knowing Silencer Blast

Silencer blast is a technique where motorcycle riders stop the engine for a small period and then re-initiate it to make the noise extremely loud. It is a violation under Motor Vehicles Act due to the fact that the vehicles are supposed to run without causing extreme noise.

Police appeal for compliance

The Gurugram police stressed upon the discipline on roads and adherence to the rules of traffic. Such campaigns are a step towards smooth flow of traffic and safer roads for all. The authorities appealed to the citizens regarding alertness on roads as well as not to disregard their noise regulation and lead peaceful lives.

The crackdown was part of the strengthened measures to ensure that the roads are safe and pleasant for every commuter-and, indeed, the police are enforcing traffic regulations strictly.
