Kanguva's Big Problem: Loud Sound Leaves Fans Reaching for Earplugs and Headache Pills

Kanguva, starring Suriya and Bobby Deol, hit theaters with much anticipation, but the film has sparked a common complaint among audiences worldwide. While some viewers were eager to praise or critique the storyline, the overwhelming feedback centered around one issue: the film’s excessively loud background score.

Fans who had been eagerly awaiting Kanguva shared their disappointment about the sound design, calling it “too loud to bear.” Many said that the high volume made the film hard to enjoy, with some even joking that viewers should bring cotton or headache medicine if they plan to watch the movie.

Social media platforms were flooded with reviews criticizing the audio levels. Several users claimed that the film's loudness overshadowed its story and performances, leaving them distracted rather than entertained.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, complaints about the sound levels poured in from theaters across the globe on the day of its release. In several multiplexes, audience members requested theater staff to lower the volume mid-show. However, it soon became evident that the issue lay with the film’s sound design, not the theaters themselves.

One industry insider went so far as to say, “Watching Kanguva felt like someone was piercing my ears with a sharp knife. About 70% of the film was ruined because of its irritatingly loud sound design.”

Could This Hurt the Film’s Performance?

While fans were excited about Kanguva’s release, this technical oversight could hurt its long-term box office performance. The film, made on a reported budget of ₹300 crore, earned only ₹20 crore on its opening day—much lower than industry expectations.

With a high-budget production like Kanguva, such negative word-of-mouth could deter more audiences from watching it in theaters, especially when there are competing blockbusters like Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

A Lesson for Filmmakers

Kanguva’s sound design controversy serves as a reminder of the importance of balancing technical aspects with audience comfort. While high-impact soundtracks can enhance certain scenes, excessive loudness can alienate viewers, overshadowing the hard work put into the film’s storytelling and performances.

As the weekend progresses, all eyes are on Kanguva to see if it can overcome this hurdle and perform better at the box office. However, the damage caused by these audio complaints may already be irreversible.
