23-Year-Old Male Arrested for Sexual Harassment on Air India Goa-Bound Flight: All Details

In a shocking incident on board an Air India flight from Delhi to Goa, a 23-year-old man, identified as Jitender Jangian, has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a woman co-passenger. The FIR filed by the victim states that the incident took place between 11 am and 1.20 pm on Tuesday. Police acted promptly and arrested Jangian upon the flight's arrival at Dabolim Airport in South Goa.

A woman at Janakpuri, New Delhi, alleged that a 28-year-old man sitting next to her was engaged in improper behavior while she was traveling by flight. According to the police report, Jangian was seated next to the woman on the flight and she alleged that the man had deliberately opened a blanket and positioned it in a manner that allowed him to engage in objectionable acts during the flight. Disturbed by the incident, she immediately filed a police complaint when the flight landed.

The Dabolim airport police quickly followed up on the woman's complaint and conducted an inquiry. The accused, identified as Jitender Jangian from Panipat, Haryana, has been arrested under charges of sexual harassment and actions intended to insult a woman's modesty. The police have registered the case under sections 75 and 79 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, dealing with offenses like sexual harassment, verbal insults, inappropriate gestures, and invasion of privacy.

This case has brought to the fore the long-standing issue of harassment in the air, especially since cases of harassment onboard airlines have been coming to light. This rapid response by the Goa Police brings to the forefront the need to take stronger actions against these crimes and deliver justice to harassment victims.

With ongoing investigations, the airline should be held accountable for ensuring safety of the passengers and the strategies to deal with such incidents. The case is clear in its indication that creating a safer environment for travel by women in both the air and on the ground is important.
