Manipur Violence: Six Missing After Death of 10 Militants in Manipur, Police Cite Concern

After the clash with Kuki militants in Jiribam, three women and three children have gone missing in Manipur. The Kuki militants had targeted security forces near Assam's border to create an environment of panic. Better equipped, the militants drew a stern reaction from security forces.

In the course of the retaliatory action, 11 Kuki militants were killed. What is worrying now is that policemen reported the disappearance of some civilians, among them women and children. Killed are militants who attempted to attack a security post with modern arms after the joint operation mounted by Assam Rifles, BSF, and CRPF forces. However, two CRPF soldiers have been injured during the clash where one of them has been seriously injured. Later, tensions gripped the area, and curfew measures were enforced in Jiribam as the district administration move to restore order.

Although the situation has improved in most of the regions, however, the places are still tense with security forces patrolling the sensitive regions. The police teams are also on their toes to trace the missing persons. It is feared that the six missing persons have been kidnapped by militant groups. Violence has now spread to other parts of Imphal Valley as there are reports of gunfire between two armed factions. Ongoing violence erupting last year in Manipur, the state continues to witness unrest. The continued violence and the search operation remind everyone about the volatile situation in that area.
