MP Deputy Collector Accused of Rape, Police File Case In Bhopal

Police officers say a case has been filed against deputy collector Rajesh Sorte, 47, from Bhopal on the complaint of a woman government employee, alleging that the latter had repeatedly raped her under the guise of marriage.

The incidents are said to have taken place in the year 2022 when Sorte was a tehsildar in Pachore, Rajgarh district. The complainant has alleged that Sorte had allegedly started an affair with her during his posting and raped her at various places. Video evidence has also been shared by the woman, an official said.
Following a complaint by the woman, the Pachore police on Thursday lodged a case against Sorte under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as the alleged crimes took place before the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sarangpur sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) Arvind Singh confirmed the lodging of the case.
The complaint was first lodged with Rajgarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Mishra, who requested Inspector Akhilesh Verma of Pachore police station to probe it in detail. According to SDOP, a special team has been formed to trace and arrest Sorte, as allegations have been quite serious.

The whole case attracted attention, and the authorities were quick in coming into action by taking appropriate steps regarding allegations. The case still remains under investigation, and the police are trying their level best to prove the allegations of the complainant while taking into their custody the culprit.
The event exposed the misbehaviour cases of abusing power and malpractices along the administrative structure. There has been immense pressure on the administrative machinery to duly investigate the case in a fair and just manner to prove justice in favor of the complainant.
