A breakthrough occurred by nailing two accused whose arrest is sought in regard with murders in the states' two districts of Ferozepur and Tarn Taran. They are said to have been living in Lucknow for this. In a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Bikramjit, alias Vicky from Sur Singh village, and Punjab Singh from Sandhra village of Tarn Taran district, were nabbed. Lucknow Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Ram Nayan Singh, confirmed their identities and said that the suspects were found residing in a rented flat in Lucknow's Indira Nagar, Sector 14. The police suspected that the two were executing instructions from gangsters operating abroad, who offered them shelter and resources as well.
The suspects will be taken into the custody of Punjab Police, who will take a transit remand for bringing them back to face further investigation. "Punjab Police wants to detain Bikramjit, alias Vicky, in connection with the murder of AAP worker Gurpreet Singh, known as Gopi Chohla, who was murdered in Tarn Taran in March this year," said Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. Punjabi Singh, however, is the prime suspect for the recent triple murder committed on September 3 in Ferozepur.
These two accused have very serious criminal cases against them. Bikramjit has cases against him in 12 cases which include murder, robbery, and NDPS Act violation cases. Punjab Singh has four cases registered against him including murder, rape, and NDPS and Arms Act violations. Police also impounded a vehicle PB60D0036, which they suspect the accused used.
Assistant Director General of Police (AGTF) Promod Ban said that information about their movements and details of their vehicles was available through human sources. Assistant Inspector General Sandeep Goel oversaw the coordination between the AGTF team and the Lucknow Police to ensure the arrests were made. DSP Bikramjit Brar and Inspector Pushwinder Singh headed the team on the ground in Lucknow.
The Ferozepur triple murder was very gruesome and saw three individuals killed. On September 3, a family of five was attacked near a gurdwara when six armed robbers on motorcycles started opening fire. Those who lost their lives are identified as Jaspreet Kaur, 22 years of age; her brother, Akashdeep Singh, 21 years; and cousin Dildeep Singh, 32 years of age. They were allegedly killed by the attackers. Police reports revealed that among the three deceased, one was reportedly involved in other crimes, as well with criminal gangs. Four days later, Maharashtra police arrested seven people from Aurangabad based on an intelligence received from Punjab AGTF.
The second major case was that of Gurpreet Singh, who was an AAP worker and was killed in March. Singh, also known as Gopi, was shot dead near a railway crossing just off the Fatehabad town in Tarn Taran. His murder caused a ripple effect through the locality, drawing attention to gang violence in the region.
The authorities are still carrying out their investigations, in hopes of recovering the weapons used in these crimes and discovering other connections in the suspects' networks. The case throws light on the challenges faced in fighting gang violence and organized crime, which transcends the borders of the states and even international boundaries.
