Weather Forecast:Severe Cold, Storm Warning, Rain in 5 States, Dense Fog Expected
Biting cold has gripped India as thick fog engulfed mornings and evenings of most places in the country. Though the sunshine during the day is quite prevalent in most places, the minimum temperatures are gradually falling in most states. Even Delhi has been showing the first hints of fog during the early hours of morning and evening.
Weather Forecast: Fog, Cold, and Rain Expected in Multiple States
The chill has gained intensity but the unrelenting air pollution in the city added to the discomfort. The India Meteorological Department has forecast an increase in dense fog and colder temperatures over North India, even as it issued rain warnings for certain areas of South India.

The latest IMD update said that dense fog is very likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, northern Rajasthan, Bihar, Punjab, northern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Himachal Pradesh over the next two days. The respective nights and early morning will experience fog with poor visibility. Sub-Himalayan areas such as West Bengal, Sikkim, western Assam, and Meghalaya are also expected to witness severe cold conditions during this time period.
Rain in Southern States
A cyclonic circulation over the equatorial Indian Ocean and lower troposphere near the Maldives has developed a trough extending to the southeast Arabian Sea. This system is very likely to bring thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30-40 km/h across southern parts, including the eastern Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Comorin, and the southern Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, light to moderate rains can be expected in the next two days. Scattered thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely, with mahe and Karaikal having chances of heavy rain. As the cold wave tightens its grip and weather patterns change, people across the country are told to prepare for chilly days ahead, heavy dense fog, and rainy conditions in some parts.
