Why 29 Couples Chose a Nude Wedding Ceremony in Jamaica

A wedding is one of the most cherished days in a couple’s life. It's a time of love, unity, and commitment, as two people come together to start a new journey. While every wedding celebrates love, some ceremonies leave a lasting impression due to their grandeur, simplicity, or unique customs. One wedding, held at a Jamaican resort, gained international attention for its unconventional approach, where all 29 couples exchanged vows without a single piece of clothing.

A Bold Wedding in Jamaica

The event took place on Valentine’s Day in 2003 at the Hedonism III Resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. In a one-hour ceremony organized on the resort’s beachfront lawn, 29 couples gathered to wed without clothing. The decision to have a naked wedding was not only daring but also symbolized the couples’ embrace of openness, trust, and vulnerability. Each bride and groom, alongside their guests, participated in the ceremony with a complete absence of traditional attire, creating a truly memorable experience.

This wedding was unique not only because of the lack of clothing but also due to the diverse backgrounds of the couples involved. Participants included individuals from various countries and professions, such as a member of the Crow tribe, a Russian, a Canadian, and many others. Their careers ranged from heavy equipment operators and advertising executives to welders and kindergarten teachers. This diversity highlighted that love transcends cultural and professional boundaries, uniting people from different walks of life.

Officiated by Reverend Frank Servacio

The mass wedding was officiated by Reverend Frank Servacio of Florida’s Universal Life Church, who had become known for presiding over such ceremonies at Hedonism III. For the past three years, the Reverend had conducted several no-cloth weddings at this resort, though the 2003 ceremony was groundbreaking in size. Previously, only a dozen couples would marry each year at the resort, making this event one of the largest gatherings of its kind.

The no-cloth wedding in Jamaica was not just a ceremony; it was a statement of freedom and the choice to step away from traditional expectations. While some may see this approach as unconventional, it underscored the couples' desire to celebrate their love in a natural and authentic way, free from societal constraints. For these couples, their wedding was more than just an event—it was a celebration of trust, openness, and unity, capturing the true essence of love.

This unique wedding reminds us that love knows no bounds, and the way couples choose to celebrate it can take many forms. Whether grand or simple, traditional or unconventional, each wedding is a reflection of the individuals involved. The no-cloth wedding at Hedonism III Resort in Jamaica showcased that love, in its purest form, can be celebrated in any way that feels true to the couple. And for these 29 couples, the day was not just about saying “I do” but about embracing each other completely, inside and out.
