Putin's India Visit Confirmed: Dates Being Finalized, Kremlin Prepares
It is in this context that Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India over the coming months. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that preparations are underway, with specific dates to be announced soon.
Putin's Upcoming India Visit: Dates to Be Announced Soon
This is going to be Putin's first visit to India since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022. The last time he was in India was on December 6, 2021, attending the 21st India-Russia Annual Summit held in New Delhi. The much-awaited visit comes after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kazan, Russia, for the 16th BRICS Summit on October 22-23, 2024, and his previous visit to Moscow in July for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. Putin has travelled abroad only a few times recently due to an International Criminal Court warrant for alleged war crimes in Ukraine. As part of the Rome Statute, ICC signatory countries are required to apprehend people whose arrest warrants are outstanding. Of course, India is not a signatory to the Rome Statute, which may or may not weigh in on the equation during Putin's visit. The Indian government is yet to give a comment about the anticipated visit of Putin as revealed by reports. It will be yet another mile in the strengthening bilateral relations between India and Russia through defense, trade, and energy cooperation.
