Ukraine Deploys US-Made Long-Range Missiles in First Strike on Russia
As the Russia-Ukraine war entered its 1,000th day on Tuesday, the situation grew even more tense with Kyiv launching long-range missiles deep inside Russian territory for the first time. Moscow said Ukraine had fired US-supplied ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) missiles into the Bryansk region, marking an important development in the ongoing conflict.
Ukraine Hits Deep Inside Russia with US-Made Long-Range Missiles
The Russian Defence Ministry said the attack took place at 3:25 a.m. local time, with six ballistic missiles aiming for a facility in the region of Bryansk. The air defense system of Russian officials caught and downed five missiles, while the sixth missile was struck in mid-air. Fragments of the missile then fell onto a military facility, set it on fire, and the fire was soon put out. Casualties and damage were reported to be non-existent following the event.
This comes a reported decision by the Biden administration just two days earlier to give Ukraine the green light to use US-made weaponry aimed at locations deep within Russia. It was not wasted time by Kyiv as this marked one of the most critical moments in its military strategy against Moscow. The move is part of continued support by Washington for Ukraine's defense while attempting to balance the risk of further escalation.

This missile attack comes as it is reported that thousands of North Korean troops have been deployed to Russia's Kursk region along Ukraine's northern border, adding new layers of complexity to the war in question. The North Korean forces are believed to be helping Moscow regain lost ground.
This is a new stage of the war for, using ATACMS missiles, Ukraine has demonstrated its ability to strike at critical targets within Russia's borders. Increased pressure is likely to be placed on Moscow while there are worries on the possibility of retaliation and broader escalation in this already sensitive region; yet the international community keenly continues its watch on events as the conflict intensifies to a new level.
