On Sunday, 73-year-old Prabowo Subianto took the oath as the President of Indonesia, becoming the leader of the world’s third-largest democracy. Prabowo, a former Indonesian military general, has faced accusations of human rights violations during the military dictatorship era. He took the oath in front of parliament members and foreign dignitaries from over 40 countries, swearing on the Quran in accordance with Indonesian tradition. Prabowo won the February 14th election with nearly 60% of the vote, largely due to his policies of providing free meals to schoolchildren and improving education.
