Statement and Apology
In her tweet, Sharma said, "I repeated what I had heard from media reports about the late Ramgopal Mishra. I was unaware of the clarification provided by the post-mortem report. I take back my words and apologize."
The former BJP spokesperson had initially made bold claims during a Brahmin gathering in Bulandshahr, where she described the death of Ramgopal Mishra as an act of extreme brutality. According to her original statement, Mishra had allegedly been shot, mutilated, and tortured during the Bahraich violence.

Sharma's Speech Sparks Controversy
In her address, Sharma said, “Thirty-five bullets, nails pulled out, stomach torn open, eyes gouged out... Does the law of our land permit murder over the removal of a flag? This isn’t something ordinary. Think beyond yourself, think of your country and the Sanatan society."
Sharma’s remarks, however, were quickly questioned. The post-mortem report revealed that Mishra’s death was the result of a gunshot wound, and there was no evidence to support claims of torture or mutilation.

Police Clarification
Amid widespread speculation, the Uttar Pradesh Police stepped in to clarify the cause of Mishra's death. The police stated that reports of torture were entirely false and dismissed rumors about his nails being pulled out or any other extreme acts. They confirmed that Mishra had died from a gunshot wound during the violence and urged the public not to spread misinformation.
The police’s statement directly contradicted the claims made by Nupur Sharma, prompting her public apology.
Social Media Reaction
Sharma’s comments and subsequent apology have drawn mixed reactions on social media. Many users expressed anger over her initial remarks, questioning the spread of false information without proper verification. One user wrote, "Why spread such rumors without knowing the facts? It only causes more division."
Others, however, appreciated her quick acknowledgment of the mistake and her willingness to apologize. Despite the clarification, the incident has triggered intense discussions about the spread of misinformation and its potential consequences.
Nupur Sharma’s apology serves as a reminder of the importance of fact-checking before making public statements, especially in sensitive matters. As the Bahraich incident continues to garner attention, authorities have reiterated the need for responsible communication to prevent the spread of rumors that could further inflame tensions.
