Massive Drug Haul in Gujarat: ₹5.87 Crore Worth of Charas Found on Valsad Beach, Police Launch Investigation

Valsad, Gujarat: In a major breakthrough, police in Gujarat’s Valsad district have uncovered a large consignment of charas worth ₹5.87 crore on the Udvada beach in Pardi Taluka. The discovery has raised concerns about the increasing use of Gujarat's coastal areas as entry points for illegal drugs.
This incident follows similar recoveries in other parts of the state, including Kutch, Dwarka, and Gir Somnath, where abandoned packets of charas have been found on beaches. The Valsad police, along with the Special Operations Group (SOG), have launched an investigation into the origin and intended destination of the drugs.
Details of the Seizure
The police discovered 11.8 kilograms of charas in unclaimed packets on the Udvada beach. Upon receiving information about the suspicious items, a team from the Pardi police station, along with Valsad SOG, promptly arrived at the scene and took the narcotics into custody.
Ongoing Investigation
Valsad Police Superintendent Karanraj Vaghela stated that the entire coastal region of Valsad, spanning over 70 kilometers, has been placed on high alert. Multiple police teams have been deployed to conduct a thorough search operation along the coastline. Authorities are also questioning local villagers and fishermen to gather any information that could aid the investigation.

Vaghela added that the police are exploring the possibility that the charas found in Valsad may be linked to an earlier seizure in Devbhumi Dwarka. The similarity between the packaging of the two hauls has led the police to contact Dwarka authorities for a coordinated investigation.
Increased Surveillance
In light of this discovery, police have ramped up patrols along the Valsad coast to prevent further incidents of drug trafficking. The investigation will also focus on determining whether the charas was intentionally placed at the beach or if it washed ashore from the sea.
Official Statement
Superintendent Vaghela emphasized that the investigation is in full swing to trace the source of the charas and to identify those responsible for its distribution. The police are committed to uncovering the full extent of this smuggling operation and ensuring that those involved are brought to justice.
This significant seizure underscores the ongoing challenge of combating drug trafficking in Gujarat, particularly through its extensive coastline. The police have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to curb such illegal activities and to protect the state's borders from becoming a hub for narcotics smuggling.
