Passenger Arrested for Smoking on Indigo Flight at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: In a recent incident at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, a passenger was detained for smoking a cigarette in the lavatory of an Indigo flight. The flight in question, No. 6E 7138, was traveling from Jaipur to Ahmedabad.
The incident came to light when a crew member, Bhumika, noticed a suspicious smell of smoke coming from the lavatory. After checking the area, Bhumika found evidence of smoking, including a pack of Gold Flake cigarettes and a matchbox, in the possession of the passenger, identified as Imran Sulaimen Syed. Syed had returned to his seat in row 16F after using the lavatory.
Flight Captain Amir Malik was immediately notified of the situation. Upon landing, the captain reported the breach to the IndiGo security supervisor, who then coordinated with the airport police. As a result, Imran Sulaimen Syed was arrested upon arrival at the airport.
The complaint lodged by Prakash Jethalal, the IndiGo Assistant Manager Security, led to Syed being charged under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. This charge relates to illegal actions onboard an aircraft, reflecting the serious nature of the offense. Smoking on a flight is not only prohibited but poses significant safety risks, leading to stringent legal consequences.
