Bengaluru Woman’s Body Found in Drain: Husband Arrested in Bihar After Fleeing With Six Children

On 11 November, police in Bengaluru's Sarjapur area found the decomposed body of a 22-year-old woman in a drainage canal. The hands and feet of the victim were tied up. Initially, it was seen that the neck of the victim had marks suggesting she had been strangulated before her body was disposed of.
The Bengaluru police traced the victim's husband, Mohammed Nasim (39), to his ancestral village in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, following several days of intense investigation. Nasim is a house painter by profession and is said to have fled the city immediately after the murder with all the six children of the couple. Authorities say that after tracing his whereabouts, they approached the Bihar police to apprehend Nasim. Though he initially resisted during questioning, relentless and effective interrogation finally made him admit to committing the crime.
Detectives, however, discovered that the marriage had been very strained and that small issues were always turning into serious arguments. Reportedly, this had affected the well-being of their children so much. Financial pressure, based on Nasim's low income, added to all this stress within their home. Nasim also accused his wife of infidelity; this often formed a source of violent argument.
On the day of the incident, a domestic fight erupted once again. Nasim is alleged to have strangled his wife in a fit of rage. He then tied her body and disposed of it in a nearby drain to cover up the crime. He soon fled Bengaluru with his children, trying to escape the police by returning to his hometown in Bihar.
Once the victim’s identity was confirmed, the Bengaluru police swiftly launched a manhunt. Through phone surveillance and the cooperation of Bihar’s local law enforcement, they managed to apprehend Nasim. Police sources indicate that the evidence gathered—combined with his subsequent confession—solidified the case against him.
With Nasim in custody, Bengaluru police have filed charges. The children of the victim, who had witnessed this period of turmoil, should be provided with adequate care and counseling. This case has once again highlighted the problem of domestic violence and financial instability. The community and authorities must intervene to prevent such tragedies from happening again in the future.
