Bhukamp in Delhi: Strong Tremors Felt Across Multiple States, Sikkim Shakes More

Bhukamp in Delhi: On the morning of February 17, multiple states in India experienced earthquake tremors, causing panic among residents. The tremors were felt in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Haryana, and Sikkim. Among these, Sikkim recorded stronger tremors than Delhi.
Delhi Feels Early Morning Tremors
The first tremor in Delhi was recorded at 5:36 AM, with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located 5 kilometers underground near Dhaula Kuan, close to Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education. The tremors were also felt in some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram.
Although the tremors were moderate, many people rushed out of their homes in fear. Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage have been reported.
Bihar Also Shaken by Earthquake
After Delhi, Bihar experienced tremors at 8:02 AM. The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.0, and its epicenter was in Siwan, around 10 kilometers underground. The sudden tremors forced residents to leave their homes in panic.
Odisha and Sikkim Experience Stronger Tremors
Later in the morning, Odisha and Sikkim also experienced earthquakes. Odisha recorded a 4.2-magnitude earthquake at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter 154 kilometers from Tadong, Sikkim.
In Sikkim, the tremors were stronger than in Delhi, causing alarm among locals. People rushed outdoors, fearing aftershocks.
Why Are Earthquakes Frequent in These Regions?
Certain parts of India, including Delhi, Bihar, and Sikkim, fall under seismically active zones. These regions experience frequent earthquakes due to tectonic plate movements. Experts suggest that minor tremors help release built-up pressure underground, preventing larger, more destructive earthquakes.
What Should You Do During an Earthquake?
Stay Calm – Avoid panicking and move carefully.
Drop, Cover, and Hold – If indoors, take cover under a sturdy table.
Move to an Open Area – Stay away from buildings, trees, and power lines.
Avoid Using Elevators – Take the stairs instead.
Check for Damages – After the tremors stop, inspect for gas leaks or structural damage.
The earthquakes in Delhi, Bihar, Odisha, and Sikkim on February 17 caused panic but no reported damage or casualties. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Since India is prone to seismic activity, residents should always be prepared and aware of safety measures.
