Four Soldiers Die as Army Vehicle Falls 300 Feet in Sikkim
In a tragic accident, four soldiers lost their lives after an army vehicle plunged 300 feet off a road in Sikkim. The incident occurred while the vehicle was traveling from Pedong in West Bengal to Zuluk in the Pakyong district of Sikkim via the historic Silk Route.
According to initial reports, the cause of the accident remains unknown. Upon receiving information about the mishap, army officials and police teams rushed to the site, and a rescue operation is currently underway.
Army Officials Respond
Local authorities and military personnel arrived at the scene immediately after the accident to carry out rescue and recovery operations. The specific reason for the vehicle losing control and plunging down the steep slope has yet to be determined.
Previous Accidents
This tragic incident brings back memories of a similar fatal accident that occurred in Ladakh last year. In August, an army vehicle had fallen into a gorge near Kyari village in Leh, resulting in the deaths of nine soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).
Details of the Convoy
The ill-fated vehicle was part of a convoy consisting of three army vehicles: a Gypsy, a truck, and an ambulance. In total, the convoy carried 3 officers, 2 JCOs, and 34 soldiers. Unfortunately, one of the vehicles met with the fatal accident.
Defense Minister's Statement
Expressing his condolences, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had previously lamented the loss of life during the Ladakh accident, stating, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of our brave soldiers in the accident near Leh. My condolences are with the bereaved families."
