Pune Woman Dies After Illegal Home Abortion: Husband, Father-in-Law Arrested in Shocking Gender Bias Case

In a shocking incident in Pune, a 24-year-old woman tragically lost her life following a clandestine abortion performed at her home. The woman’s husband and father-in-law have been arrested, while her mother-in-law has been booked in connection with the case.

Police investigations revealed that the family arranged the illegal abortion after discovering the foetus was female. The four-month-old foetus was buried on the family’s farm, and authorities have since exhumed it for a postmortem examination.

An officer from Indrapur police station stated that the woman's condition worsened due to severe bleeding on Sunday, and she died en route to the hospital the following day.

The woman's brother filed a complaint, leading to the arrest of her husband and father-in-law. A private doctor, suspected of carrying out the unlawful abortion, is also under investigation.

A case has been registered at Indapur Police Station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The incident has raised concerns about illegal abortion practices and ongoing gender-based discrimination, emphasizing the need for greater awareness and stronger enforcement of women’s rights in India.
