Shocking Incident in Pune: Truck Falls into 25-Foot Pit Due to Ground Collapse
A surprising and alarming incident took place in the Peth area of Pune on Wednesday when a truck fell into a 25-foot deep pit after a part of the ground collapsed. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area. The truck belonged to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and was on-site for sewer cleaning operations. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the driver jumped out of the vehicle in time, saving his life.

The truck was on its way to the City Post Office in the heart of the city for sewer repair work when the accident occurred. The incident unfolded around 4:30 PM on Friday.
Panic in the Area
The City Post Office is located near Belbagh Chowk, a central area in Pune. Due to complaints related to sewage channels, the Municipal Corporation had initiated repairs. At around 4:45 PM, a contractor's truck, along with workers, arrived at the site to address the issue. As work was ongoing, the ground beneath the parked truck suddenly gave way, creating a large sinkhole. The truck, except for its cabin, sank entirely into the pit, causing panic among the onlookers.
Rescue Efforts
The driver managed to escape by jumping out of the truck just before it fell into the pit. As the truck sank, water began to accumulate in the hole. The fire brigade was immediately notified of the situation, and within a short time, fire brigade personnel arrived on the scene. They worked tirelessly to retrieve the truck from the pit.
Suhas Jadhav, a fire brigade officer, provided updates to the media, confirming that teams were working to extract the truck from the sinkhole.
The incident has raised concerns about infrastructure and ground stability in the area, and an investigation is expected to follow. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the accident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper maintenance in densely populated urban areas.
