IIT Kanpur Teams Up With MHA to Launch Census Data Research Workstation

IIT Kanpur Teams: the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) signed a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to establish a Census Data Research Workstation at its Computer Center. This facility will give researchers, academicians, and students easy access to census data for in-depth analysis, policy development, and innovative studies.
What the Workstation Offers
The Census Data Research Workstation will provide access to census tables and micro-level data from 1991 to 2011 in digital format. Researchers can study various socio-economic and demographic aspects of India’s population, supporting data-driven policy-making and enhancing the overall research environment.
First of Its Kind at a Technology Institute in UP
This partnership makes IIT Kanpur the first technology institute in Uttar Pradesh to have a Census Data Research Workstation. It’s also the third central institute in the state to set up such a facility. The new workstation joins existing ones at institutions like BHU, AMU, Bundelkhand University, and D.D.U Gorakhpur University.
How It Will Help Researchers
With this facility, researchers can easily analyze over 30,000 census tables and 8,000+ articles available on the official census website (censusindia.gov.in). The workstation will streamline the process of accessing essential datasets, empowering researchers to focus on meaningful insights and policy-driven outcomes.
Commitment to Excellence
IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that it will become an invaluable resource for students and researchers alike. The project reflects the institute’s dedication to data-driven innovation and advancing India’s development efforts through robust research.
