Her husband filed the crime report with the police before lodging it, appealing for justice. He said the armed men stormed into their house and separated him and their children from his wife by locking them in another room. The dastardly assailants then raped and killed his wife and set the room on fire.

Post-mortem and forensic examinations to be conducted in Assam

Media reports reflected that in the absence of post-mortem and forensic facility within Jiribam, the charred body of the woman would be transported to Silchar, Assam. The Jiribam SP added that transportation to Imphal by National Highway-37 was also tough due to the ethnic conflict current in the area, and thus airlifting the body to Assam was the decision taken.

The place has been witnessing violent clashes for the past two months, with frequent incidents of assault, murder, looting, and arson. On September 7, six people were reportedly shot and killed in the district. Meetings have resumed to try to resolve the disputes among the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities.

Just two days earlier, another woman was brutally attacked in Jiribam. In this attack, the victim is a school teacher named Josangkimi who is 31 years old. She was shot and later thrown into a fire while still alive; it has, therefore, been observed that the attacker is responsible for her death. Armed intruders also set multiple homes on fire during this attack, which happened in the same Jairawan village, located just 7 kilometers from the Jiribam police station and near a CRPF camp. Josangkimi was a mother of three who lived in a village. At 9:00 PM, the attackers stormed into her house and committed this violent act.

These incidents have increased residents' fears since authorities are striving to regain order and prevent bloodshed in this violence-wracked region.
