PAN Card with Initials Only for Father Name Income Tax Department Clarifies Misconceptions

There have been circulating claims on social media that a PAN card with only initials for the father's name is invalid. The Income Tax Department has now clarified these concerns.

A PAN card, which stands for Permanent Account Number, is a crucial document in India, especially for income tax-related matters. It is also widely used for various financial services such as opening bank accounts, mutual fund investments, and applying for credit cards.

The PAN card is issued by the Income Tax Department, and one can apply for it online. The card includes details such as name, date of birth, photograph, address, and Permanent Account Number. Recent misinformation suggests that PAN cards with only initials for the father's name are invalid and must be corrected immediately.

In response to this, the Income Tax Department has stated that a PAN card with initials for the father’s name is still valid as long as it is properly linked with the Aadhaar card. The department confirmed that there is no official requirement for a full name on the PAN card, and claims that PAN cards with initials are invalid are unfounded.

The official websites of the Income Tax Department have not issued any notice indicating that PAN cards with initials are invalid. Therefore, the spread of misinformation about the validity of PAN cards with only initials is false, and the public is advised not to be misled.
