Taliban’s New Decree For Women in Afghanistan: ‘Do Not Build Windows in Homes, Seal Existing Ones

The Taliban has finally issued a decree that says no windows shall be erected in newly constructed homes in Afghanistan. According to this latest restriction targeting women, it believes that women should not look outside or be looked from outside, which might engage them in "indecent behavior."

Decree Details

New Construction Rules: Homes must not have windows facing courtyards, kitchens, or any spaces used by women. Existing homes with such windows must either build walls or implement measures to block visibility.

Monitoring Compliance: The municipal officers and related departments will monitor the construction of new homes to ensure compliance with the decree.

Restrictions on Women Continue

The Taliban has, since it assumed power in August 2021, instituted a chain of prohibitions on women's rights including excluding them from jobs, colleges, parks, and all other public areas. The UN has condemned the policy multiple times.
