Recently, the food safety authorities inspected the Hyperpure warehouse of Zomato in Kukatpally, Hyderabad. While doing so, they detected several major flaws which bring serious concerns about the customer's safety. It has been reported that the packaging date of 18 kg of button mushrooms marked during the inspection on October 29 was October 30, 2024. The "future date" labelling is a severe deviation from the norms of food safety, and the seriousness casts a doubt on the adherence and trustworthiness of the warehouse.

Food Safety Issues Found at Zomato Hyderabad

Apart from the date discrepancies, the inspection had several sanitation and safety issues. It was reported that the warehouse had a presence of houseflies, and proper pest control measures such as pest-proof screening were lacking. Further, many food handlers were not wearing the necessary safety gear, such as hair caps and aprons. These oversights, especially during the festive season when food demand surges, can pose serious health risks for consumers.

This incident falls into a larger category of stepped-up inspections around Diwali by the food safety department in Hyderabad. Authorities check for food safety in areas during the festival season to avoid the usual peak rush for food. The results of the latest checks conducted have shown other food outlet places, including momo, sweet shops, and even shawarma stalls, showing anomalies. Several shopkeepers were cautioned as they do not follow the standards laid out for health and hygiene.

The conclusions drawn from the Hyperpure warehouse by Zomato are that food safety regulations have to be strictly followed for the very reasons of averting health hazards. These inspections remind food service providers of the need to maintain high standards of safety, especially during peak seasons, to protect consumer health.
