LIVE: Assembly Elections 2024 Update

The 2024 Assembly election results are unfolding with excitement and surprises. In Haryana, the latest trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) edging closer to the majority mark, leading with 44 seats while the Congress follows closely behind with 41 seats. The magic number for a simple majority in Haryana is 46 seats.

Counting of votes began at 8 AM today, and initial results indicate a significant shift in the political landscape. In Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance has crossed the majority threshold with leads in 52 seats, while the BJP trails with 25 seats. This marks a major political moment as it is the first Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir in a decade, following the abrogation of Article 370.

The voter turnout in Haryana was about 68% during the single-phase polling held on October 5. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir saw a turnout of 63.88% across three phases of voting held in September and October.

These elections are crucial for the BJP, which aims for a hat-trick of victories after winning in 2014 and 2019. On the other hand, the Congress is hopeful of making a comeback after spending a decade in opposition. The stakes are high as the results today could influence future elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi.

With both states showing strong competition, political analysts are eagerly watching how these trends will unfold as the final counts come in.
