95 Days Lost at Sea: A Peruvian fisherman, Maximo Napa, survived 95 days lost at sea, battling extreme conditions, hunger, and dehydration. He was eventually rescued by a fishing patrol team 680 miles off the coast of Ecuador. His survival story has shocked many, as he managed to stay alive by eating cockroaches, seabirds, and turtles until help arrived.

How Did Maximo Napa Get Lost?

On December 7, Napa set out from Marcona, a coastal city in southern Peru, for a fishing trip. He had food and water supplies meant to last two weeks, but just 10 days later, bad weather pushed his boat off course. Lost in the vast ocean, he was left stranded with no means of navigation.

Family's Search Efforts Went in Vain

Napa's family launched a search mission, hoping for his safe return. Peru’s maritime patrols also joined the search, but there was no sign of him. As days turned into weeks, hope started to fade.

His mother, Elena Castro, prayed for closure, wishing at least to see her son one last time, whether alive or not. However, his daughters never gave up hope, believing that he would return.

How He Managed to Survive 95 Days at Sea

Napa collected rainwater to drink and consumed seabirds, turtles, and even cockroaches to stay alive. As days passed, he grew weaker. He shared that in the last 15 days, he had no food left, relying only on his willpower and the memories of his family, especially his two-month-old granddaughter, to keep going.

The Dramatic Rescue at Sea

After 95 days adrift, a fishing patrol team from Ecuador found him on Wednesday, far from where he had originally set out. At the time of the rescue, Napa was severely dehydrated and extremely weak.
