Hyderabad News: 33-Year-Old Woman Dies, 20 Others Fall Ill After Eating Momos
A shocking incident came to the fore in Banjara Hills of Hyderabad where a 33-year-old Reshma Begum died, and 20 others fell victim to food poisoning on October 25 after eating momos from a roadside vender at Khairatabad. She had taken her two daughters, aged 12 and 14, to eat momos in the Khairatabad region on 25 October. Within hours, all of them reported symptoms of vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The tragedy is that Reshma, a single mother, died of this illness. The daughters are dazed and in distress.

The police launched an investigation into the incident based on complaints from Reshma's family. Banjara Hills police station Assistant Sub-Inspector Ram Babu said that a case has been filed against the vendor. The preliminary report has revealed that the food vendor was operating a shop without a food safety license and was preparing food in unhygienic conditions. The police also found that flour used for momos was packed in an unpacked form in a refrigerator with its door broken, which raises the issue of food safety.Samples of food from the vendor's stall have been sent for lab tests to determine why contamination occurred. Authorities were shaken by Reshma's death and acted swiftly. Along with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's food safety department, the police have caught and lodged the stall operator based on the complaint from the family. A case of culpable homicide has been registered against the vendor based on the complaint by the family.
